Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Highlights India's Shift Towards Becoming a Product Nation

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Thursday that the government’s focus is to transform India into a product-driven nation. Speaking at the Indian Web Browser Development Challenge award ceremony in New Delhi, he emphasized, “India has been a strong service nation, but now we must shift towards becoming a product nation.”

He explained that this transformation involves not only software products but also hardware, both analog and digital. “What you see today is part of a multi-step journey towards that goal,” he added.

Vaishnaw further noted that the outdated mindset, where government institutions were solely responsible for development, needs to be replaced with a more inclusive approach. “The new mindset involves collaboration between academia, startups, and student researchers to develop innovative solutions,” he said.

The Indian Web Browser Development Challenge was organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA), and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) as part of the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. The challenge aimed to promote excellence in indigenous browser development, beginning in August 2023, and following a rigorous three-stage evaluation process: Ideation, Prototype, and Productisation.

The winners of the challenge, three companies in the service sector—Zoho, Ping, and Ajna—were recognized for their achievements.
