Apple and Samsung Send Legal Notices to Xiaomi Over Controversial 15 Ultra Ads

Global smartphone giants Apple and Samsung have reportedly issued cease-and-desist legal notices to Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, objecting to its recent advertising campaign. According to reports, the US and South Korean tech leaders have raised concerns that Xiaomi’s ads are damaging their brand reputations.

Xiaomi’s Bold Ads Target iPhone 16 Pro Max

Xiaomi recently ran full front-page advertisements in several Indian newspapers promoting its Xiaomi 15 Ultra. These ads directly compared Xiaomi’s flagship phone with Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max, using provocative language that reportedly didn’t sit well with Apple and Samsung.

One such ad, shared by a Reddit user, mocked the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s camera by calling it “cute” alongside the tagline, “Maybe it’s time to see through the right lens.” Another advertisement took a jab with the message: “Happy April Fools’ Day to anyone who believed that the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s camera could outshine Xiaomi’s newly launched 15 Ultra.”

Samsung Also Targeted by Xiaomi’s Campaign

The reports also mention that Xiaomi has launched similar ad campaigns aimed at Samsung, prompting both Apple and Samsung to send legal warnings.

Why Apple and Samsung Are Taking Action

Apple and Samsung argue that Xiaomi’s ads contain disparaging content that crosses the line of fair competition, unfairly portraying their products in a negative light. Both companies hold significant shares in the premium smartphone segment, where brand image is crucial.

Upcoming Launches from the Tech Giants

All three brands—Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi—are gearing up for major global product launches, including in India. Apple has scheduled its “Awe Dropping” event on September 9, where it plans to unveil the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone 17 Air.
