Yangwang U9 Track Edition Breaks Records: Fastest Production EV at 472.41kmph

BYD’s luxury sub-brand Yangwang has just made global headlines — its U9 Track Edition has officially become the world’s fastest production electric vehicle, achieving a jaw-dropping top speed of 472.41 km/h. The record-breaking run took place at the ATP proving grounds in Papenburg, Germany, putting the U9 ahead of elite hypercars like the Rimac Nevera.

Extreme Power Meets Cutting-Edge Tech

At the heart of this high-performance EV is a quad-motor setup, with each motor spinning at 30,000 rpm and generating 744 bhp. Combined, the U9 Track Edition produces a staggering 2,976 bhp and 2,960 Nm of torque. Despite weighing approximately 2.5 tonnes, the hypercar’s 1,200V high-voltage architecture and advanced engineering allow it to accelerate and maintain extreme speeds with remarkable stability.

Advanced Systems for Maximum Control

The U9 Track Edition introduces BYD’s DiSus-X intelligent body control system, capable of adjusting the suspension up to 100 times per second. This system works in harmony with semi-slick tyres co-developed with Giti, cutting-edge thermal management, and key aerodynamic enhancements like a fixed carbon-fibre rear wing, all of which contribute to its high-speed performance on the track.

A New Era for Chinese Hypercars

Yangwang was created by BYD as a premium sub-brand to showcase the company’s top-tier automotive innovation. With the U9 Track Edition, BYD not only highlights its electric performance capabilities but also positions itself—and China—firmly within the global hypercar elite.

This milestone is more than just a speed record—it’s a bold statement of intent from a brand looking to redefine the future of high-performance EVs.
